About GMAT 2012: Preparation, Test centres

What is GMAT?
GMAT is a globally recognised test for MBA aspirants, it is also the most widely accepted test in leading business schools and management education programmes around the world.

Test Structure
The GMAT test structure changed in June 2012, it now consists of four sections instead of the previous three sections. The four sections consist of Analytical Writing Assessment or AWA, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and verbal. The duration of the exam is three and a half hours but there is the choice of an optional break which would extend the duration of the paper to four hours.
The unique thing about the GMAT is that it adjusts to your individual ability level, this both shortens the time taken to complete the exam, as well as establishing a higher level of accuracy than a fixed test. At the beginning of each section, you are presented with a question of reasonable difficulty. As you answer each question, the computer scores the response and to determine which question to give next. Correct responses typically promote questions with higher difficulty, whereas, incorrect answer will tend to result in questions of lesser difficulty.

How is my score determined?

The following determine your score:
· The number of questions you answer
· If you answered the questions correctly or wrongly
· The level of difficulty
The questions in an adaptive test are weighed according to their difficulty and other statistical properties, not according to their position in the test.
GMAT Preparation

While it is important to improve your vocabulary and work on the reasoning section, it is as important to prepare for the problem solving section. This section has been designed to test your ability and skills in basic arithmetic, geometry, algebra and statistics. Speed and accuracy are critical to cracking to this section. With good practice, speed and accuracy can be acquired, it also reduces the time required to solve each question.
